Xperia X10
Today I ran into a problem with my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 smartphone. After applying the latest Android update (at least the latest one that SE supports), I came to the unpleasant discovery that my contacts appeared to be gone.
It took me a while to find out, since I usually only call a handful of numbers and use the “latest calls” screen to re-dial a number I have recently called. When I needed to look up another number today, I noticed that I only had 2 contacts remaining in my list.
The odd thing was that I could still see the contact cards for my recently dialed numbers, so I was pretty sure the contacts weren’t actually physically removed, but the phone just had problems displaying them. After some checking, Googling I finally figured out where the contacts had gone, here’s how to restore them if you’re having the same problem.
- Open the phone application.
- Go to the contacts tab.
- At the top left, you should see an icon of a “group” of 3 persons; click it.
On the screen that appears, you can “filter” what contacts are displayed. My phone already had “Phone contacts > All contacts” selected, which I assumed was the right one. Apparantly, the contacts got linked to my Google account. So, I had to expand the Google menu and select the “System Group: My Contacts” group.
Once checked, I was able to see all my contacts again. If this does not do the trick for you, play around in the filter screen to find which filter works for you. The answer should be in that screen somewhere.
